Why do I need to share my location data with the Minds2021 app?
GPS location data is collected from your device to support this study’s goal of better understanding mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s. Location permissions must be set to Always (iPhone) or Allow all the time (Android) in order for the Minds 2021 Study to capture the data outlined in the Informed Consent Form and participate in the Minds 2021 Study.
What happens if I accidentally turn off location data sharing in my phone?
If you turn off location data sharing in your phone, please open the Minds2021 app. The app will let you know if the settings have been changed and provide you with the set up instructions again. You can also reference the setup instructions that were emailed to you or refer to the instructions above.
Location Data Sharing iOS (iPhone) & Pop-up Notifications
If you are using an iPhone, you may receive the following message at various times throughout the study:
“Minds2021” has been using your location in the background. Do you want to continue allowing this?"
- If you always allow access to your location, Minds2021 will be kept up to date at all times. If you only allow access while using the app, it will only be updated after you open the Minds2021 app.
- Please make sure to select Always Allow or Continue to keep the settings needed for study participation. If you accidentally choose something different, don't worry. You can manually change your location permissions by going to your phone's settings. Instructions to check or change your settings can be found by clicking HERE.
“Allow "Minds2021" to also use your location even when you are not using the app?"
- If you always allow access to your location, Minds2021 will be kept up to date at all times. If you only allow access while using the app, it will only be updated after you open the Minds2021 app.
- Please make sure to select Change to Always Allow to keep the settings needed for study participation. If you accidentally tap Keep Only While Using don’t worry. You can manually change your location permissions by going to your phone's settings. Instructions to check or change your settings can be found by clicking HERE.
“Minds2021 Would Like to Send You Notifications”
- Allowing notifications on your phone will allow the Minds2021 app to send you your daily survey and other study activity reminders. If you see this message, please click "Allow".
